TRANSMISSION TOWER (2011)

Transmission Tower was a poster-making workshop at The Getty Center as part of a Pacific Standard Time event. It was inspired by The Artists Protest Committee and Mark di Suvero’s 1968 Peace Tower—constructed at the busy intersection of Sunset Boulevard and La Cienaga (just 5 miles from the Getty Center) as a prominent, visual protest against the Vietnam War. Getty visitors were invited to make posters expressing their own opinions and protests. Participants’ finished posters were then added to an 8-foot tower (and once that filled up—to the plastic wind-breakers) to create a colorful display of free speech.
